What’s YOUR ‘rating’?

Welcome to Road Warrior!
If you just linked here from a race website, this is where you sign up to become a Road Warrior so you’ll be eligible for Road Warrior prizes at that race. Read more below about the program.

Handicap Rating Program for Road Runners
How it Works

The program places all runners in a (Road Warrior-designated) race virtually at the same running ability. If you have a ‘handicap rating’ from us already (meaning you’re already a “Road Warrior"), it will be used to compare your race performance with previous ones you’ve done.

If you improve your pacing in one race from another (our software takes into account the difference in distance), you will place higher in the Road Warrior category that day (and be eligible for Road Warrior prizes). So if you train a little harder or a little smarter, your improvement will be reflected in a higher placement at Road Warrior races.

First you need a ‘handicap rating’ from us, which, in simple terms, is a product of the race times you’ve done over the past year.  Our new ‘rating’ looks like and is a 5k time.  If you’re fast, your rating or time is low, under 20 minutes, and if you’re not quite so fast, your rating or time is anywhere above 20 minutes.

Ultimately it’s how you do against yourself, however. Improve your time, as mentioned, and you could win prizes. All Road Warriors gain points for participating in Road Warrior races, with the top 10 earning progressively higher points for the end-of-year standings.  Women have won the Road Warrior category in as many races as men, just so you know.

1. SIGN UP as a Road Warrior if you haven’t done so yet. No cost to do so. The only thing you’ll get from us is monthly newsletters and announcements.
2. Our new software will find all the races you’ve done in the past year, create a ‘handicap’ rating for you and enter you in the Road Warrior system. You’ll then have access to the ratings and race results & points.
3. ENTER designated Road Warrior races as these are the only ones you can win Road Warrior prizes at or get points at for the series standings.

Designated Ontario races let you WIN AWARDS at those races and WIN SERIES PRIZES at the end of the year!

Road Warrior Races in Eastern Ontario
The ‘handicap rating’ system for runners - Road Warrior Running - is now offered at Eastern Ontario races too. Thirteen races from the Somersault Series, including the “Fall Colours Marathon” are included. Click on the “Races” button on this site and select “Eastern”.

Ontario runners can see their ‘handicap rating’ on the RoadWarriorRunning site. Free access requires a simple sign-up.

All runners who sign up are then eligible for winning prizes and points at races and at the end of the year those with the most Road Warrior points will win additional prizes.

‘Masters’ Races join Road Warrior Program
Ever notice how young runners at races often pass you late in the race? Annoying?  Maybe there’s a solution for you with the Ontario Masters Athletics Association, an organization or club for people over 30 who like to compete in running (though it does offer track and field events too).  If running is your main interest then you’ve got lots of people to compete against.  And even better, the OMA organizes its own events for both members and the public.

And now the OMA has joined the Road Warrior program so its remaining four events will earn those signed up as Road Warriors points at its races. See the Ontario Masters
