Road Dogs › Danny at MasseyEver since I first seen Bob Bolton with the Massey t shirt I wanted one. When I ran my first race there which was in 2003 I saw those stools and thought it would be cool to win one. My age group was at that time 44-49 and in order to win my time would have had to have been a 3:15. After running Boston it was difficult to maintain that pace. In 2005 I was older and thought I had a chance from looking at the previous times the year before. I ran this race shooting for a 3:20 to hopefully get the stool. The race was on I felt good and kept the pace steady, at the 16 to 17 k mark I saw one of the fellow Dogs up ahead who was running the Half so I tried to catch up to him and keep pace. I started to go ahead of him and to his surprise he decided this can’t happen so he sped up and passed me so I just tried to keep him in sight and watch my pace. The course is a double loop when I approached the 16 to 17k mark again I was asking the runners coming towards me what their age was, 37, 41, 40, 29 I thought good then I saw a runner who looked in my age group so I ran beside him and asked how he was doing he said I don’t know if I can keep this pace up he said and I knew he was done so I passed him and focused on the task at hand win that stool.
