Alfie's Trophy's and Medals › FranceThis medal is thought to have been won by Alf Shrubb when his club, South London Harriers, took on the Racing Club de France in the summer of 1903. The races were at the Croix Catelan venue in the Bois de Boulogne and Shrubb stormed to victory in the 1500 metres (4.17) and the 3-miles (14.53.6). The latter was a French allcomers’ record by a huge margin. The same year, Shrubb also won an inter-club cross-country race between the same clubs staged in the Bois de St Cloud, Paris. Although he accidentally went off course for a spell, Shrubb recovered to win in 62mins.29secs, nearly two minutes ahead of the best placed Frenchman, Chastini, over a course of around 10.5 miles. ![]() |
