Alfie's Trophy's and Medals    Harvard

During his days as a professional runner in the USA and Canada, Alf Shrubb would often receive a warm welcome from communities of British expats. In the town of Lawrence, Massachusetts, a group of appreciative resident Brits staged a concert in Shrubb’s honour and presented him with this three-handled ‘loving cup’. When jotting down some of his memoirs for the English journal ‘All Sports Weekly’ a few years later, Shrubb would fondly recall the night he received this particular trophy.

In 1910, Alfred took on the job as Cross Country Coach for harvard University. An English newspaper reported at the time:

“The good work which Shrubb did for Harvard cross-country team means that professional coaching by a man who thoroughly knows his game and has ability to impart the knowledge he possesses is the right thing in the right place. No man alive today knows more about distance running or the hill and dale sport than Shrubb.”
